Detox: Life (eating fresh)

Christmas belly. It happens. It happened. It's time to get my body feeling right.

There has been so much sugar in my life this holiday season, and I'm so ready to end the saccharin madness.

Therefore, our first assignment for Detox: Life is focusing on fresh foods for the month. Please remember that I'm not a nutritionist or a doctor, so please listen to your body and do what's right for you.

I'll be eating:
Fresh vegetables
Fresh fruit
Eggs
Nuts
Whole grains
Yogurt
Olive oil
Dried/canned beans

I won't be eating:
Dairy (including cheese, Lord help me!)
Meat
Bread, pasta, tortillas, or cereal
Anything pre-processed such as granola bars, chips, etc
Alcohol
Soda
Sugar

Of all these I think it will be the most difficult to stay away from sugar and cheese. But the point here is not deprivation, but to cleanse my body, blood, and organs so that I can get myself feeling as clean and fresh as possible. This is supposed to be enjoyable! Who's with me?

Here are some recipes to get you started:

Green Papaya Salad
Magic Bean Salad
Quinoa Salad
Curried Carrot Soup
Split Pea Soup with a Thickness
Crock Pot Ratatouille
Herbal Tea

  1. I'm on Maui and just found your blog via Twitter (yay for Hawaii bloggers!). I've loved connecting with so many island bloggers in the last month - it seems there are so few of us!

I am totally with you on the detoxing thing; I did a Life Detox last September and never felt better...it was hard work, but the results were so worth it. I've slipped back into a few old habits since the holidays, of course, so I am ready to detox again and get back to the raw, clean diet my body has learned to crave. Maybe I will join you and we can motivate one another!

And just so you know, I lost my grandfather last Wednesday, so I totally understand where you are coming from. I am wishing you peace and healing. I look forward to reading more and getting to know you better!

    Aloha,
    Angie

  2. I feel it too! I wanna participate in this detox. I'm going to be honest, I am weak. OH, boy am I weak when it comes to food. If you took a peek at my instagram you'll know all the yummy foods I love to eat.

Yes, Dairy and sugar would be very hard for me too. Also, bread. OMG, I love bread.

You know what...I'm going to do it. I'm just going to try my best. What's the worst that can happen? Okay, sign me up! How long is this detox?

  3. Those are all great elements to cut out and help detoxify from. If it's overwhelming for some people to do it all at once, maybe try tackling one of those items on the list per week. Fresh fruits and vegetables are definitely a great way to nourish the body. If people feel like they've really heavily indulged in sugar over the holidays it can always be a great idea to nurture your spleen with yellow and orange foods like squashes, carrots, or pumpkin. Great stews with them or soups are fantastic for that. So are grains like aromatic rices, quinoa, or cous cous. Happy detoxing everyone!
