We jetted off to Maui to celebrate five complicated years of marriage.
It's only a 45 minute plane ride, but felt a world away from our complicated lives.
Celebrating love is not complicated.
It involves scenery oggling, whale watching, surfing.
Sometimes we celebrate the little things. Like naked hippies roaming the Maui hillsides. Or prying open bottles of beer with a key.
We celebrated living. Especially after surviving Kahekili Hwy, a one-lane road full of blind turns during which I stress-ate half a bag of s'mores goldfish crackers.
Living is easy to celebrate when one has easy access to a Whole Foods. You're looking at a beach feast of duck mousse, assorted olives, and baguette bread.
My beloved friend Marie also lives on Maui. We celebrated out friendship with sea salt lattes. This is a girl who knows me from the inside. It can be scary when someone knows everything you are, even all the prickly parts.
But it's worth it for the love I get back. And no one else can understand my deep obsession for the perfect cappuccino.
oh i love this:

hope you have a beautiful, blessed weekend with your love!
What a perfect little getaway! Happy Anniversary! I can see the love in your faces, and feel it through your words.
ReplyDeleteWhere are the sea salt lattes from? I haven't had that.
ReplyDeleteI'm really glad you got to see a naked hippie because I totally forgot to tell you about small beach (what was I thinking?) :-0
I think the place is called the Green Banana in Paia. The lattes weren't on the menu, but the barista made them for us. (we remembered having them on a previous visit)
DeleteIs small beach a naked hippie hangout? Next time you must take me there!
Congrats again! Relationships are tough, seriously. I'm glad you were able to enjoy your trip. Sea salt lattes and duck mousse? You can't really go wrong. I'm sure the naked folks spiced things up a bit too!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on five years of marriage! I've never been to Maui before (I know...shocking, right?), so I'm living thru your wonderful photos!
ReplyDeleteIt looks like you guys had a lot of fun!!!!
What a wonderful experience. I'm completely in love with the idea of Maui. I only went once, very briefly and didn't really get to explore it. I'm so glad I'm getting to see it through your eyes. These sea salt latte's sound amazing and I too, hunger for a perfect cappuccino. The naked hippie was just the icing on the cake. I'm going to have to see if I can find something like that Duck Mousse. I've never tried it before. Lovely trip Gwen. Thanks so much for sharing it with all of us.
ReplyDeleteIt looks beautiful there! Congratulations on your anniversary, looks like you celebrated in style x
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! And, love your last paragraph... that's what love is all about! xx
